French Onion Meatloaf

Ingredients
  

  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 2 large onions sliced
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste I used 1 tbsp each
  • 2 cups shredded gruyere cheese divided

Instructions
 

  • Caramelize sliced onions in butter over medium-low heat until golden brown. About 20 minutes
  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Mix in half of the gruyere cheese and half of the caramelized onions.
  • Shape into a loaf in a loaf pan or on a baking sheet.
  • Bake at 375°F for 35–40 minutes.
  • Remove and top with remaining onions and cheese.
  • Bake an additional 10–15 minutes until cheese is melted and internal temperature reaches 160°F.
  • Rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
