French Onion Meatloaf

- 2 lbs ground beef
- 2 large onions sliced
- 3 tbsp butter
- 1 cup plain breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 eggs
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste I used 1 tbsp each
- 2 cups shredded gruyere cheese divided
Caramelize sliced onions in butter over medium-low heat until golden brown. About 20 minutes
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Mix in half of the gruyere cheese and half of the caramelized onions.
Shape into a loaf in a loaf pan or on a baking sheet.
Bake at 375°F for 35–40 minutes.
Remove and top with remaining onions and cheese.
Bake an additional 10–15 minutes until cheese is melted and internal temperature reaches 160°F.
Rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
