French Onion Chicken
This French Onion Chicken is made with juicy chicken thighs, deeply caramelized onions, and a rich beef gravy topped with melty gruyere and mozzarella cheese. An easy skillet dinner perfect for weeknights.

- 5 bone-in chicken thighs
- 3 –4 onions sliced
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 1 tbsp granulated garlic or garlic powder
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp flour
- 1 cup low sodium beef broth
- splash Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 cup gruyere cheese
- 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese
Season chicken thighs with granulated garlic, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
Cook chicken in olive oil in a skillet until golden and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
Melt butter in a skillet and cook sliced onions with salt until deeply caramelized. Add splash of Worcestershire sauce half way through.
Add in garlic and cook for one minute. Sprinkle flour and stir.
Add beef broth and mix to create a gravy. Bring to a boil and then lower heat and allow to simmer and thicken for 3-4 minutes.
Return chicken to the skillet and spoon onions over the top.
Top with gruyere and mozzarella cheese.
Bake at 425°F until cheese is melted and bubbly.
Serve hot on top of mashed potatoes with asparagus.
